"Modernized Islam tends to view the legacy of white supremacy and racial terror as the special property of Blackamericans rather than as part of the social, political, and psychological history of America as a whole. This enables it to identify with a sanitized version of the dominant culture and to converts its own mechanisms for accommodating non-Muslim ways into a tool of domestification and accommodationism. On this conversion, appeasing and deflecting the criticisms of the dominant group become far more urgent that addressing the concerns of the Muslim folk. And rather than confront America's social, economic, or political injustices, not to mention her racial domination, Modernized Islam tends to dance around these through juridical agnosia and an almost childish commitment to a hyperbolized pluralism, according to which there are rarely any right answers (that spawn commitment and action) only acceptable ones (that merely require recognition). This, to borrow the observation of one critic (in another context) translates into the perfect ideology for the bourgeois mind; for "[s]uch pluralism makes a genial confusion in which one tries to enjoy the pleasures of difference without ever committing oneself to any particular vision of resistance, liberation and hope."
