Brooklyn Tech Junior, Iftida Faria, won 1st place in the John Sexton Essay Contest for The Rise for Rohingya Campaign (3/1/2018)

Manhattan NY - Last week, Khan’s Tutorial student and Brooklyn Tech Junior, Iftida Faria, won 1st place in the John Sexton Essay Contest for The Rise for Rohingya Campaign. The contest invited all NYC high school students to participate in a creative essay challenge about the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar. In her award-winning essay, Iftida spoke about how high school students could help Rohingya refugees. As first place winner, Iftida received a $300 Amazon gift card, a plaque from New York University President Emeritus, John Sexton, and was featured on the Rise for Rohingya website. Special guests at the awards event included world-renowned philosopher Anthony Appiah, Honorable Ambassador Momen, Imam Khalid Latif, Rabbi Sarna, and Chief Medical Officer & Vice-Dean Doctor Olugbenga Ogedegde. NYU President Emeritus John Sexton also spoke with attendees about the importance of a higher education institution to focus on global crisis. “Our team at Khan's Tutorial is very grateful to have partnered with student leaders at NYU for the Rise for Rohingya essay contest. Khan's Tutorial students from our SAT & Regents programs submitted over 70 essays, and we’re so proud of our student Iftida Faria, who won 1st prize for her essay on how high school students could help the refugees,” said Ms. Tasneem Imam Khan, Director of KT’s High School Achievement Program. Since 1994, Khan’s Tutorial has helped 2,615 students gain admission to New York City’s Specialized High Schools.
